absolute pitch

Absolute pitch (commonly referred to as perfect pitch) is the rare musical ability to distinguish notes and pitches without a given reference. For example, people with AP can automatically spot the difference between an "Gb" (G-flat) and a Db (D-flat) without any hints given. The odds of being born with AP is 1 in 47,000 people, making this phenomenon rare. Absolute pitch can be distinguished in people who are blind since birth, and in most cases, people affected by Williams Syndrome and autistic spectrum disorders. Some famous examples of absolute pitch include John Phillip Sousa, Ludwig van Beethoven, Julie Andrews, Freddie Mercury, Yanni, Steve Vai, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, the Mendelssohn siblings, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is said to have been born with absolute pitch, playing one of his father's piano sonatas correctly four minutes after listening to it. He was at the age of four at the time.

The adjective of the website known as pitchforkmedia.com.

1) If a friend is talking about an album like its the greatest record ever, and you are an indie hipster with all the knowledge of music and its effects on society, than an important factor on you listening to this album is to find out if the album is good enough to be pitchfork'd.

2) The resulting aspect of an EP/LP once it has been processed through the rigorous critique and analysis of the pitchfork's reviewers.

Friend 1: So I listened to Kid Sam's Self Titled record last week, it was fucking incredible.

Friend 2:
Has it been pitchfork'd?

Friend 1: No. What the hell is pitchfork?

Friend 2: Well it's not worth listening to.

Most recently known as the "T-Pain Effect"; pitch correction is mostly used by less talented singers to maintain a false but stable singing voice.

"Did you hear the new Cher song? The pitch correction makes her sound like T-Pain."

a term used as a replacement for "pitch black" meaning not able to see anything or without light. Used frequently in rural areas in Canada, especially in the Ottawa Valley, Ontario.

One cannot travel down the street.
It is PITCH DARK because the street lights are out.
