Avon Old Farms

A small all boys boarding school located in Avon Connecticut. Don't let its picturesque campus fool you, this is hardly Hogwarts. With the dozens of sports venues, they lack even a single academic building. AOF is home to four hundred jocks that rarely attend classes, and enjoy the following: playing sports, drinking to excess, doing drugs ( including but not limited to pot, dip, and heroin) and banging a large amounts of girls (or at least pretending to). Even so, the girls attending the four surrounding boarding schools can't seem to stay away. We have all fallen victim to the charm of drunken PG's, terrifying dance experiences, and of course naked study halls. In bouts of despairation, these strapping young men have been known to find the nearest Porters girl, or even fellow classmate, to "satisfy their needs", What a classy bunch

Avonlea

proper n. An excellent television series adapted from the works of canadian novelist Lucy Maud Montgomery (of Anne of Green Gables fame). Expertly produced by Kevin Sullivan, Avonlea follows the lives of turn-of-the-century famillies living on beautiful Prince Edward Island, or PEI.

The series stands out for its beautiful scenery and sets, authentic costumes, well-devised plotlines, excellent acting and evocative themes. The overall quality of the production brings to mind Merchant/Ivory costume dramas.

Most Americans familliar with the series watched it on The Disney Channel, which used to carry it weekly. It should also be noted that this is the show on which actress Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead remake, Go!) played her first important role, as the impetuous Sarah Stanley.

Unfortunately, this beautiful drama has faded into obsqureity, now remembered only by die-hard Green Gables fans.

Avonlea was probably the best period drama ever produced, rivaling even Little House on The Prarie, and I hereby record its greatness for posterity's sake.

Avon

A river that runs through Christchurch, New Zealand. In New Zealand it is considered a national joke, as the Avon River is a common dumping ground for dead bodies, especially prostitutes, which can be found on Manchester Street, near the bridge that crosses the Avon River.

As used recently in the Roast of Mike King: "...a man who's career is deader than a hooker floating down the Avon."
