Trad

Internet obsessed subculture of young people disenchanted with the ills of the modern world. They are a bit like hippies—if the hippies decided that embracing old fashioned clothes, hobbies, political positions, gender roles, and so forth was the most effective way to rebel against the dehumanizing aspects of modern society. In reality, a lot of trad subculture is purely performative and contradictory—as might be expected of an anti-modern movement that exists mostly on… the internet.

Why are so many of my Twitter followers Trad? I'm going to post more about Polyamory to scare them off.

Traditional

Someone who lives the tradition - from the Latin tradere (to transmit, to hand over, to give for safekeeping). Has an aristocratic lifestyle (in its true sense) not necessarily belonging to the wealthier classes of society. One who is interested in autochthonous cultures, history, arts, mythologies, transcendence, philosophy, high culture, good manners, refined language, education and intellectuality. Gives enormous value to dilettantism, refinement and the aesthetics of details, is a dissident of the vulgar.

Being traditional is to keep improving and transmitting achievements and values over the years, adapting to the current reality, without losing the original essence.

Tradgrass

A reference to the traditional style of western bluegrass, i.e as played by Tony Rice or Doc Watson. Used to differentiate from modern day "Newgrass" and "Jamgrass" and other variations popularized by bluegrass fusion artists, like Billy Strings.

Man, that new album dropped last night, straight tradgrass. Makes me want to practice my banjo, although I'll probably just get drunk, instead.
