brass hats

A term used to describe superiors, especially in a military context. Named as such because of the brass pins worn on military officers as decorations and/or medals in the past. Famously used by JFK during the Cuban Missle Crisis.

Smack Hat

Another term for a crash helmet.

A smack hat is similar in type to those worn whilst riding a lambretta or vespa. It is typically a visorless helmet that is most effectively positioned on the head by the use of a smack from the hand on the top of the helmet from a helpful friend.

A device to protect your head when it 'smacks' into an object.

Jimmy could really have hurt his head when he came off his scooter, but luckily he was wearing his smack hat.
