background friend

Someone who's friends with lots of people from different friend groups but isn't necessarily confined to one, typically an ambivert, sometimes the center of attention but also gets left out often, never asks for help, doesn't really know whats going on sometimes, and doesn't really have a best friend in their friend group since everyone has their own best friend in that friend group but copes with that by considering everyone in their friend group their best friend.

friend: Have you seen Myles? He seems pretty off today, he's really quiet today.
another friend: It's alright he's probably texting that other kid. After all he's just the background friend.

A friend girl is a girl you really like, but you're just really close friends and not boyfriend/girlfriend. You're still in the friend zone and that's ok.

friend high

The pleasant "high" feeling one acquires around close friends, often compared to being on some sort of drug. Accompanied by lots of laughing, stupidity, excitement, good conversation, and loud obnoxiousness, ie the act of getting "high" off another's good friendship vibes.

Often considered a replacement for drugs and alcohol, though not heavily supported.

2. "Watch the dosage on THAT friendship, Carlos..."
3. "Lets get friend high tonight"

friend by association

A person who is your friend, but only because he is one of your friend's friends. It doesn't really matter how much you like him, or how often you converse, he is still your friend by association. But he can only be a friend by association if you have met him, (and not just heard about him) and talked to him.

Erik is Chris's friend. Josh is Erik's friend. Erik introduced him to Chris. Chris greeted him. Josh is now Chris's friend by association, and vice versa.

Theoretical Friend

Old friends that you never really hear from anymore, apart from the occasional Text msg, Email or fleeting birthday card, that always contains one of the phrases: "we should meet up, hang out, do something, I'll call you..." but never actually make any arrangements. These are good on paper mates, those that bump up your personal sense of popularity but never actually see. Friends in theory.

Always there when you need them, kind in any way, if you have a problem in real life you can talk to them, they always know what's best, they know what you want to do, they will always be your best friend they'll never betray you day or night; and the best part is that everyone is lucky to have a online friend.
