1. FOB is an acronym for Fresh Off The
Boat. Originally used by
Asian Americans to decribe other Asians that recently immigrated from an
Asian country or one who has not yet adopted the American Culture or one who speaks english with a
heavy accent.
2. In the 90s on the west coast, FOB was a label (like punk rocker or cholo) used to decribe a certain subculture of young asians between the ages of 13-25 (American born or not) typically with extended, bleached
blonde bangs often growing three or more inches passed the eyes. In the early 90s the style was low top Vans or black suede dress shoes with slim fit (sometimes acid washed) jeans with white
tank tops and a silk jacket or
purple Umen Sweater.
As time went on, the style changed to baggy fit pants, worn-out black or white Nikes, and most of you
may remember; the STOLEN Tommy Hilfiger or Nautica Jacket.
At the time, many (true) FOBs were associated with triads or street gangs like Wah Ching or the Jackson Street Boys, specializing in extortion of stores in Chinatown or the sale of
fire works just to name a few. But as we entered into the new millenium, the culture as we knew it started to fade or transitioned into what is now known as AZN.
1. Damn, that FOB can't speak english.
2. Did you
see those FOBs on the
news, they were involved in the
Chinatown shooting.
