A term used in prison referring to being given permission by one’s physician or psychologist to not have to leave the cell for a few days for whatever chosen reason.

I’ve only got the rent-a-phone for the next two days so I got myself a lay-in so I can get in touch with as many family members as possible from the comfort of my rack.
