organic dissonance

What happens when a person's online persona does not jibe with their in-person reality.
Brittany: So, did you finally meet the new guy?

Brandi: I was really digging him on Ok-Cupid and then we met for coffee. He was wearing a Justin Beiber concert tee AND he had a mullet.

Brittany: MAJOR case of organic dissonance.

Brandi: The WORST.

Brittany: ((cringe))

Emojional Dissonance

When you use the wrong emoji to react to something.
I sent her a "laughing so hard I'm crying" emoji, when she told me her grandfather died. Caused some emojional dissonance.

Covid dissonance

(noun) Covid dissonance is the mental state brought upon by needing to mentally operate in unprecedented, trying, unforseen, difficult times as if the world isn't a disastrous trash fire all while the world is, in fact, a disastrous trash fire.

Cognitive dissonance

An example of somebody displaying cognitively dissonant behaviour would be a situation where the persons views, values, beliefs etc are contradicted or opposed by one or other persons causing them mental (psychological) stress. At this point a state of cognition is triggered effectively causing them to refute, reject &/or miss-perceive the contradictory views, values or beliefs.

It is also used by assholes on the internet who try to sound smarter then they really are, without actually knowing what it means.
"smoking will most likely cause you to have cancer you know?"

"hmmm I'm not so sure I know people who have smoked all their lives and they're fine, plus I enjoy it anyway.." this is cognitive dissonance

Moronic Dissonance

When someone is so incredibly stupid that it causes you mental pain.
Her failure to grasp what is really going on in the world is causing me a lot of moronic dissonance.

Damn ma'am, there is some massively moist distonance within Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up'
