lurking variable 

A random event or thing that, quite frankly, is creepin'. Lurking variables can occur at any time, and be used as an excuse for almost anything. Only really hairy math teachers can use this term to its full potential.

-"Billy, why were you out so late last night?"
-"Lurking variables, Mom."

-"Crikey! That crock almost bit me in my lurking variables!"

-"Now class, the lurking variables in measure four are being played wrong, remember the lurking variable rule. If a note has a lurking variable next to it, it will be played that way throughout the measure unless another lurking variable occurs within that same measure.

A variable that you use throughout a code without printing it.

Dominion variable 

A complex, multi-national algorithm that requantifies statistics based on the needs of the most nefariously inept.

One legged Timmy didn't have a chance in hell at being the worlds fastest man, until his SJW soccer mom petitioned the equality police. After they applied the Dominion variable, One legged Timmy IS the worlds fastest man!

Confounding Variable 

Variables that occur when the two explanatory variables , x and z, have a collective causation effect on y. The difference between the two cannot be distinguished because there is not enough evidence to determine the validity of a statistical relationship.

Weight gain is greatly influenced by activity level, but age, the confounding variable, also plays an influential role on weight gain.
