Handshake

A lot of people take a handshake as a sign of trust by both parties (and as a weakness, where it would be stupid to trust someone who's given you no good reason to trust them). Shaking hands, pounding fists, or bumping elbows often seems like an attempt to force another party to trust, make peace, or do business with another, which is why some people dont readily shake everybody's hand when they meet them (especially people they dont know, or dont know well). Not shaking hands lets the other party know the trust isn't there, and isn't guaranteed to get there.
Realistically, not everything works out between two people. A handshake doesn't fix anything, it only gives one party the sense that everything is okay with the other party. People should not rely on a handshake to determine whether everything is okay between two people or not.

When I had sex with her for the first time I had to be a gentleman and give her holes a handshake.

Handshake Mishap

When two people are attempting to shake hands and some sort of mishap occurs such as one person partially missing the other person's hand and ending up shaking just their fingers.

Grabbing just fingers is terrible and is sometimes misinterpreted as giving someone a limp fish handshake. Both the limp fish and just fingers make a terrible impression on both close friends and complete strangers leading to harsh reactions ranging from a moment of unspoken awkwardness, to outright ridicule or even death in some cultures.

Therefore if a handshake mishap occurs the best resolution is to immediately ask for a handshake reset. While this will not completely absolve the handshake mishap it does go a long way towards making things right.
Guy 1: Damn it! I was on my job interview and there was a handshake mishap and I ended up grabbing just fingers.

Guy 2: Did the interviewer say anything?

Guy 1: No but I could tell there was just a moment of unspoken awkwardness. He probably thought I was giving him the limp fish and was put off by it.

Guy 2: Did you ask for a handshake reset?

Guy 1: No I totally blanked!

Guy 2: Dude you're fucked! No way you're getting that job. You should have just walked out mid-interview and saved everyone's time. At least be glad he didn't kill you because he was within his rights to do so. I know I would have.

Handshake Reset

Requesting another chance to shake hands due to a handshake mishap (e.g. missing and grabbing just fingers) on the first attempt. The handshake reset allows both participants to save face and also helps prevent the moment of unspoken awkwardness, outright ridicule or even death that usually follows a handshake mishap.
Guy 1: Yo what’s up man? Been a while (Goes in for a handshake and partially misses, grabbing just fingers).

Guy 2: (Moment of unspoken awkwardness) Uuuuuhhh yeah man............good to see you too.

Guy 1: Yo dude I fucking missed. Can we get a handshake reset on that?

Guy 2: Fuck yeah we can! Glad you asked for that or I was about to whoop your ass!

Guy 1: And I would’ve deserved it. (Handshake reset results in a proper handshake and everyone is happy!)
