battlefield 1942

An addicting on-line first-person shooter that re-enacts real WWII battles. A game that frequently involves spilling out an entire clip of ammunition on an opponent 2 feet away yet entirely missing.

Most players can be classified into 4 categories.

1. Players who know what they are doing.
2. Players who do nothing but camp next to planes and promply crash them into trees.
3. Players who do nothing but be annoying snipers and puss out for the entire battle.
4. Suicidal n00bs who shoot everyone and anything.
Player 1: Wait! I want to get in the boat to get to shore!
Player 2: STFU! I'm taking this 8 passenger boat for myself!

Battlefield 1943

The latest game released by DICE on July 8th, and 9th of 2009. It is essentially a lower level but nicer graphics version of Battlefield 1942. On the day of the release the forums were flooded with people complaining about various issues. One member even threatened to file a class action lawsuit against DICE for "misleading" people to somehow enter their credit card information, download the game, install it, and start play it. Pretty odd.

The game itself is quite fun, but rather glitchy in the earliest form. In time the game is speculated to have various bug fixes, and perhaps even more maps.

Many console wars broke out over the "Coral Sea Challenge" which is essentially if the community of Xbox and Playstation 3 users get 43 million kills in total, the 100% dogfight map Coral Sea will be unlocked. A counter was added to the home page, and Xbox users started to boast about how they were winning, causing Playstation 3 users to retaliate and cause a console war.
Battlefield 1943 is a good game, just needs a bit of work. You can't beat the $15 price either.

battlefield 1942

One of the most groundbreaking games in FPS history, allowing players to re-enact historical battles of World War 2 in surprising (if not perfect) accuracy and realism. This game was also the first FPS style game to feature the ability to command any vehicle or stationary weapon battery the player might come across during gameplay. (The game features almost any vehicle significant to the war, allowing players to command everything from a British Sherman Battle Tank to a Japanese Battleship)

Battlefield 1942 is not only a revolutionary game because of its unique style of gameplay combined with easy-to-operate controller configurations, but also because (despite comments made by my fellow Canadian, Random Hoser) it is considerably accurate historically, providing brief accounts of battles after the real victors have won, and making up a believable post-battle summaries if the winning team were infact defeated during the given battle.

Two expansions have been released by EA since the games original debut, first of which was the "Road to Rome" expansion, which added the French and Italien forces into the gameplay, and is truly worth purchasing, and the later-released "Secret Weapons of World War 2" expansion, which, in my opinion, strayed too far from the WW2 atmosphere generated by the original title and was not very enjoyable, nor worth the money I paid for it.

Many mods have also been released from various sources, although the most notorious of them are the "Eve of Destruction" mod (since been succeeded by EA's new release, "Battlefield Vietnam") and the glorious "Desert Combat" mod, which in my opinion is almost more enjoyable than the original game, and worth 7 hours to download.

In summary, Battlefield 1942 is one of the greatest (probably THE greatest) FPS title ever to be released, and is worth the original price ($49.99) to buy, even years after its release.

My screenname online is Janos Illin, if you see me give me a shout
Counterstrike is a good game, but most people who play Battlefield 1942 see it as mediocre, and afterwards find it less enjoyable then the said title.

Player01 says: I found Secret Weapons of World War 2 wasn't as enjoyable as Road to Rome

Player02: No other game has ever allowed me to use me old FPS skills, while simultaneously giving me the option of strafing my friends in a P-51 Mustang!

Battlefield 1942

Best. Game. Evar. EA is leet now. Plus, the expansions are actually half-decent. Anyone that bashes this game is, sadly, a motherfucking dumbass casual gamer who doesn't know shit.
Hoser, you're a dumbass; the Americans, British, Soviets, and the Canadians are in the game, it's just that the entire Pacific thing was mainly the US.

Battlefield 1918

Battlefield 1918 is a total conversion modification for Battlefield 1942. This game, made by Electronic Arts and Dice in 2002, is one of the very few first person shooters that manages to put you straight onto a complex battlefield. As a player, you are able to use a broad variety of tactics and situations to your advantage. Next to the typical FPS elements, you are also able to drive vehicles, fly planes or even take the command over a battleship. Because of this, Battlefield 1942 manages to bring the chaos of a real battlefield to life on your computer screen.

Battlefield 1918 takes Battlefield 1942 into a whole new scenario, the first world war. Next to historically correct equipments and vehicles, we try to recreate the atmosphere of these WW1 battlefields as close as we can, keeping in mind the game we're working with. To achieve this, we've drastically changed the gameplay from the original game like so that you must now rely on teamwork, artillery, trenches and slow vehicles.

Battlefield 1918 combines fun with historical correctness, gaming with history, the memory of one of the most terrifying wars mankind has ever known, with fun had by people over the internet. Next to the battles fought on the Western front between mostly the Germans, the British and the French, we'll also cover other scenarios, such as the Turkish battlefields at Gallipoli, or the Eastern front where Germany and Austria-Hungaria fought against Russia. Next to land- and airbattles using historic weapons and vehicles, we're also planning on covering the naval aspect of WW1 in a broad spectrum, as this was the time in which the great battleships still were the absolute rulers of the seas.

Our website has been created using a modern system called Dotlan, which enables us to offer all of the necessary information in three different languages. At the moment, most of the content is available in both German, English and French. Next to all kinds of information regarding the game itself, we also have a quite elaborate history databank filled with articles well worth a read. We keep our community up to date on a nearly daily basis about the progress of the game as well as the history behind it. Our forum reaches about 130 posts per day coming from about 1000 active members. With about 5000 visitors each day, we're now one of the well known sources for WW1 material on the net.

Over 10000 players play Battlefield 1918 per month, a number in which the regular players have a fair share. World War One rages on three official servers and several by clans or privately set up servers. This makes Battlefield 1918 one of the top mods in the scene, but also the currently most played game around the first world war.

With over 40 members, the Battlefield 1918 team is one of the biggest in the modding scene. We work each day to broaden this mod even further, to further improve on the fun and feel of the game. All of this is done on a non commercial basis and is mostly a hobby project. However, we do make use of modern technology in the development of the mod. Next to a CVS system, which enables multiple developers to coordinate their work and work together, we make use of modern 3D programs, graphical programs and the tools made for modding this game by EA and Dice. All developments come from careful planning and a coordinated team.

A large team of betatesters makes sure that the usual high level of quality is preserved. Only those vehicles, weapons, sounds, images, videos and maps that we deem appropriate for the public to see will be published.

We're currently still working hard on Battlefield 1918 and we'd like to express our thanks to EA and Dice for making this great game called Battlefield 1942. Without this, we wouldn't be able to create this mod we're making here.
"These guys take 'total conversation' to a new level. I love how they focus on the little stuff, gives the game a whole new type of environment...not to mention how hard they work and damn there's a daily update on something new.
Great job guys."

"I think this is the most professional mod for BF1942 out there. All the models/skins are of the same quality, the news is informative and well written, it caters to three languages, it listens to its players, its devs are friendly, and the release system is specific and well organised.
Hats off to BF1918!"

Battlefield 1942

Best game ever, without any doubt. Infinately better than MoH, and probably DoD and CS as well. Most realistic WW2 simulator of all time. Game for which Desert Combat was created.
I love BF1942 so much, I would willingly strap myself into a Matrix-type immersion pod and spend the rest of my life playing BF1942 and it's sequals!
