Recurrent Pregnancy Loss. According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, RPL is a condition when a woman has 2 or more clinical pregnancy losses (miscarriages) before the pregnancies reach 20 weeks. Losses are classified by when they occur. A "clinical pregnancy" loss is one that is diagnosed by a health-care provider using an ultrasound. In most cases, a pregnancy can be seen with ultrasound as early as 5-6 weeks’ gestational age (or 1-2 weeks after a missed period). Pregnancy losses that have been detected only by urine or blood hormone testing before disappearing are known as "biochemical losses" and are not usually included in making an RPL diagnosis.
Blood tests can show if a woman has certain medical, immune, or blood-clotting conditions that might cause RPL.

You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
