webp is an image format that stands for "we blow at pictures". It the format you use when you want to pull a prank on someone you hate by sending them important images they need immediately, but can't ever view.
Dude, how can we get back at Billy for taking all our boar meat?
I know, lets send him pics of naked women in webp format!
I don't man, I'd rather just kill his dog.

an image file format designed by Google for the World Wide Web. it's much superior in compression compared to other formats, whether lossy (like JPEG) or lossless (like PNG), supports animation (like GIF), and can do almost anything those formats can. the problem is that nobody likes it anyway. Google itself doesn't even support it for the Google Docs suite, most applications don't open them, and many people simply convert them to PNG on sight, which is disruptive to workflows. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The objectively superior image format, which no one seems to know about. WEBP supports PNG-like transparency, GIF-like animations and both lossy and lossless compression. It can compress high quality images into little space. Most web browsers can open WEBP files.
I just sent you that pic you asked for 😏
What the hell is a .webp file?

A image format for YouTube thumbnails, fandom wiki images, and most importantly, saving transparent 4K images of noisy cubes under 3MB. It's pretty useless because nobody supports it, not even Google services, which is weird because they made the format.
JPG for lossy, PNG for loseless, GIF or APNG for animations. Stop fucking with it
Normal person: why the fuck can't I do anything with these stupid .webp files?? Why can't we just have gif/png/jpg?
Anonymous No.96481548 on /g/: You cannot keep this transparent 4K image of a noisy cube under 3MB on any of those three formats while retaining the resolution, color depth and transparency. files.catbox.moe yrpe7w.webp

The one image format that causes problems because most people can't open an image that has it.
Guy whose computer doesn't support Webp images: Dammit! Who made this format?!

The link for the GIF of the cat taking off their glasses, except it's missing the "http ://" part.
Little Timmy: "I used inspect element, selected the cat gif, and it sent me to 'media3.giphy.com/media/iEivb6DyFoJJm/100.webp'! How cool is that, Mom?"

Mom: "Your father and I are getting a divorce."
