A great genre of british alternative rock in the nineties. Made popular by bands suede and blur in the begining. Most britpop bands main influences are the beatles,the smiths,and the stone roses. U.s. Reconition started with blurs album leisure in 1991.Then latter in 1994 oasis released definently maybe and blur released parklife which started the battle of britpop mainly in the u.k. Though. Blur had a more sucsessful single won the battle. But in 1996 what's the story mourning glory came out kicked blurs asses. In 1997 britpop died because oasis be here now album was mediocre camparred to there other albums. This lead blur lead singer to say fuck britpop and release a self titiled album that nothing to do with britpop. It had one the greatest songs of the nineties song 2. That was influenced by american alternative rock.people seem to confused with was brit pop.radiohead not britpop,the verve post-britpop.with britpop dead came post-britpop. Good thing post-punk/garage rock revival came out cause post-britpop wayyy to soft.
Brit1: I wish oasis album be here now didn't suck cause here's post-britpop. Brit2: yeah cause coldplay and the verve are to soft and radioheads to boring.

The media has apparently confused or brain washed people who don't know what it is to start believing it is tho. Really since the 70s and 80s indie rock bands have gotten mainstream attention without being on a major label. Notable since the 70s to 2000s are joy division,the smiths,oasis,blur,the libertines,arcade fire. Which are all alternative. So when someone says its all the same or is a sound it makes no sense cause theres hardrock bands,heavy metal bands,punk rock bands and more different rock genres on a indie label.
Girl: have you heard indie rock like the killers,death cab for cutie,the strokes? they all have the indie sound. Guy: no those bands are on major labels and indie rock does not have a sound. But I love those bands. Girl: oh!

Get the indie rock mug.A made up music genre. By the media to describe melodic hardcore punk bands,that wrote personel and sad lyrics or song in a whiny style of voice. And of course everybody likes to say that the beginning of emocore started with rites of spring. They actually just are a bad sounding post-hardcore band. In the mid 80s they wrote more mellodic songs with personel lyrics. When they played shows some of crowd thought that the songs were so sad that they cried like they were the beatles. These people were called emo. In the 90s the band jawbreaker wrote a sad little song about getting drunk instead of kissing a girl. And got called emo. Sunny day real estate though may be the only emo band because of their sound but only for one song seven. Then the media made it out like to be emo write a song like jawbreaker and sound like sdre. Sunny day real estate is mainly a band that mixes grunge and hardcore. They did one whiny record and that was it. There is no band that comes out saying that there emo. But the only band I know that sounds simuler are to sdre is taking back sunday. But there not emo either.
Sunny day real estates song seven is the only true emocore song. btw people that say the cure is emo,probably has down syndrone
