Ishtar was the consort of Marduk and a Sun Goddess. Her following diminished in Babylon during a patriarchal shift in society. The book of Esther in the Bible is believed by some to be in deference to the steadfastness of Ishtar's followers, in that a resurgence of the Goddess cult rendered the nation of Babylon more peaceful and non-combatant, resulting in the release of Israel.
I had heard, but have not verified, that the Book of Esther is the only book of the Bible in which the name of God is not spoken. If this assertion is correct, the assumption that the ancient Hebrew scholars took Ishtar as their own and Esther resulted is more sanguent.

Also known as Amun Ra. Sun god of ancient Egypt, believed to have brought about creation 'single-handedly' by producing the first 5 great gods of man whole from his penis. His children, Osiris, Set, Isis, Nephthys and Horus established both the overworld and underworld of men.
Ra was worshiped as the supreme god of Egypt, except during the reign of Akhenaten, when the monotheistic cult of the sun god Aten held sway. Tutankhamen (the famed King Tut) reestablished polytheism and the worship of Ra.

Contrary to the beliefs of some, Tiamat was not slain by Marduk, but the substance that was Tiamat transmogrified into all creation and she was relegated to exist beyond the Ayin Soph Aur behind the Great Gate in the North. The cicadian rhythm of natural cycles teaches us to understand that day follows night and seasons change. How great is the difference in cosmic seasons? Is it like day and night? Or is it like the difference between cold and hot? Is Tiamat a demon? Is Tiamat a dragon? Look to your wife or mother. That is Tiamat, know that and take heed.
It seems that Tiamat appears in some sort of fictional form now and then, and that she's usually a dragon. *shrugs*

The eldest daughter of Amun Ra who fathered children by spurting them from his penis. His first child, Osiris, was the consort of Isis and became the first great god of the overworld of men. His second child, Set, craved the office of the overworld as he was relegated to the underworld pursuant to the ascendance of Osiris. Isis was the third, the first great goddess of the overworld; cow-headed mother and responsibile for the instruction to mankind in all matters agricultural. Nephthys, her sister, followed by Horus, the youngest brother, round out the happy family of 5 children.
I have heard an interesting concept; that the name of Isis is translated into Hebrew by inserting the feminine letter Shin into the unspoken name of God, spelt then Yod He Shin Vov He, which is Jeheshuah, or the Hebrew name of Jesus.
