sticky-stickies

A Stop Stick; i.e. a device consisting of a series of diagonally-spaced hollow spikes, placed face up on the surface of a road; used by law-enforcement agencies at roadblocks etc. to puncture the tires of a fugitive vehicle so as to bring it to a safe and gradual halt.

Setting up a roadblock just past the interchange, police used "sticky-stickies" to blow out the suspect's tires, and he was apprehended without incident about half a mile away.

sniff a bicycle seat

to be unsuccessful, usually in a competitive endeavor; to lose, often under unfortunate or exasperating circumstances.

Al Gore got half a million more popular votes than George W. Bush in the 2000 election, but since Bush won more electoral votes that sent Bush to the White House and left Gore to sniff a bicycle seat.

Snaggle tooth

A gold or silver charm in the shape of a small horn, worn on a chain, popular among young-adult males, especially those of Italian ethnicity.

There is no doubt that few if any of the young men who wear the ubiquitous "snaggle tooth" pendant are aware of the charm's true origins: In medieval Italy, it was a sign of shame worn by a man whose wife had left him for another - a cuckold.

(usually preceded by "the") Fargo, North Dakota (due to its being the state's largest city).

It was during the peak popularity of Fargo-born singer Bobby Vee that a local disc jockey came up with the nickname "The Big Stagecoach."

Felony prostitution; the crime of prostitution treated legally as a felony rather than a misdemeanor because the person accused thereof is HIV-positive.

Gay rights groups object to the "felprost" laws on the books in many states because they believe such laws inordinately target male "hustlers" as opposed to female, heterosexual prostitutes.
