Highlight 

Something people put on a reel like Facebook or Instagram (Myspace before 2008).

The group of people that claimed to be so colorful, quirky, and different said the dinner at Dr. Lecter's was the highlight of their year, which tells you they went to a little too many overrated parties and afterparties, someone lied to them about how colorful and different they were, or (most likely) they lied to themselves and others about how colorful and different they were (and everyone including themselves seemed to believe it without really having a good reason to or questioning any of it).

Purse dog 

Someone that claims to be more fiery when they grow up.

The purse dog might have been laughable as a kid (with nicknames like mouth of the south coming from both other kids and adults) but he/she spent his/her entire life trying to turn the tables and get revenge on the Goliaths of his/her youth, gathering marauders for support.

A guy you don't see in many movies with Robert De Niro.

People are going to see with their eyes that the guy isn't Kevin Costner, he's just some guy infatuated with a girl in a catsuit, then what? It's not for lack of trying to convince them that he really is Kevin Costner that they'll see.

Variant 

An excuse for some people to take even more from the rest.

The new variant makes some people godlike all over again (even some of the frontline workers). They get to order people about with more commandments. Would most people give that up without anybody waking up and fighting back, especially if they didn't think anybody would?

Variant 

Same trick, different name.

By giving each variant a different name and origin country, scientists, the grief/tragedy/sympathy industry, the healthcare industry, government/corporate entities and everyone else with a financial interest in continuation of the pandemic and measures against it can keep the same trick going for years, and getting people to do anything they tell them to, like puppets. They can keep fucking with people's lives as long as they want as long as people allow them to by getting fearful. They must be saving the subterranean Boogeyman variant for last, for a time when people are no longer shocked/scared into doing what they are told (including with the threat of loss of jobs/companies/businesses). If people don't wake up and fight, they're going to have less and less left to fight for, the longer it takes.
