Suburbia is semi-urban areas built around a city, often suburbs have malls and chain restaurants. Sometimes a town that was not suburban for years become a suburbia in a fast growing city. (cities out west or in the South)
People who grow up in a small town don't have suburban values. Suburban values come from people who lived in a city/town that was always suburbia their entire lives, or most of their lives. A town that still has a display with time and temperature outside the bank is not suburbia, it's a small town, and wouldn't be confused with suburbia.
