IL-76

IL-76 Candid

The IL-76 is a Soviet vehicle transport plane. It was first introduced in 1971. It was made by Ilyushin, hence the abbreviation ‘Il’. It was thought to be another rip off of a US plane, which Ilyushin did often. This time it was the C-141. In actuality, it was most likely a coincidence. The IL-76 was mainly designed to open up Siberia having the ability to transport heavy cargo. It ended up being a strategic cargo plane for the Soviet Union. The V-TA (military version) reached 150 by 1980, frequently replacing the An-12.

BMP-1

BMP-1

The BMP-1 is a Soviet amphibious troop carrier. It was introduced in 1967. It was armed with a bore gun and AT-3 Sagger. It could seat eight passengers in addition to the three crew members. The passengers could fire out of small holes about large enough for the muzzle of an AZ47 while inside the BMP-1 through small holes on the sides.

The Mirage F1 is a French attack jet. It was first designed in 1964. It can travel at speeds over mach two. It can be armed with four types of normal bombs, two types of anti-runway bombs, one type of anti-vehicle bombs, three types of ASM rockets, one type of cluster bombs, three types of AAMs, one type of auto-cannons, a laser designator pod, a laser-guided rocket pod, an anti-radiation missile, or two types of optical cameras.

An-24

Antonov An-24 Coke

The An-24 Coke was introduced in 1960. The An-24 was a very good aircraft, replacing the licensed DC-3. It keep an altitude of 3000m with a full payload and only one engine! Its first flight was on October 20, 1959. It had a cargo door in the back. Production ended in 1979. The An-24 was replaced by the An-26.

SA-8

SA-8a Gecko

The SA-8a Gecko is a mobile self-propelled SAM system. The SA-8a Gecko was first introduced during a parade through Red Square on November 7th, 1975. The SA-8a Gecko is amphibious. It was based on the SA-N-4, a naval version used on many Soviet ships, like the Krivak-Class Cruiser. The SA-8 missile could travel for about thirteen kilometers. It weighed about one hundred ninety kilograms when ready to launch. The SA-8 missile uses IR tracking to find its targets. The Gecko itself carries four SA-8 missiles, and another 8 inside for reload purposes.

Ratel-90

Ratel-90

The Ratel-90 is a South African IFV. It was introduced in the mid 1970s. It had large doors on each side to allow passengers in. It is armed with a 90mm autocannon and two MG-4s. The first MG-4 is part of the turret-mounted 90mm autocannon and the second is mounted on the back and manned by a soldier. The windows support small firing ports, four on each side.

The P-166S Albatross is an Italian transport plane. It was introduced in 1957. The Albatross version was specifically built for South Africa, twenty were sold to the South Africans as search and rescue planes.
