losing my religion
it literally means "losing my temper" or "going insane" to some degree. If you would look at the REM lyrics to the song by the same name, it makes more sense, it really has nothing to do with religion.
I was pretty much losing my religion after being forced to listen to rap music by all the freshman girls at my school.

Civil Air Patrol
The AUXILIARY of the United States Air Force. The Civil Air Patrol performs many missions including Search and Rescue, Disaster Relief and Aerospace Education. The Civil Air Patrol also had ground teams for search and rescue, and average 100 lives saved a year.
The Civil Air Patrol also has the largest fleet of single-engine aircraft in the world, complex VHF-FM and HF-SSB radio systems that allow for interoperabily with navy, air force, marine corps, coast guard, as well as disater relief organizations such as the red cross, FEMA, etc.
The Civil Air Patrol is a national asset that at least does something useful, unlike the ROTC.

Apollo 13
see also successful failure
Less then one year after man first walked on the moon Apollo 13 was simply a "routine" flight until a faulty thermostat caused an oxygen canister to explode, blowing an entire side of the spacecraft away, the ship eventally starts leaking oxygen and the crew (Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise) have to survive in the Lunar Module until they can safely make it back to earth. But they didn't get to play with moom rocks.
