They won't let me live ... 

There is an old saying in tough prisons and military training, they won't let me live ... and they won't let me die! It is based in self pity.
Geez, Rangers school, they won't let me live ... and they won't let me die!

A USAF fighter pilot was the legendary Colonel Robin Olds, on combat patrol a young lieutenant gave a panicked radio call to the colonel "sir, we have 8 MIGs around us!" Olds looked around and advised the junior pilot "that's right son, and luckily we got them all to ourselves!"
Colonel olds loved to have MIGs all to ourselves.
