Man-Child

A term originating from Claude Brown's 1965 memoir "Man-Child in the Promised Land" about growing up in the streets of 1940s and 50s Harlem, NYC, one of the earliest and most powerful accounts of ghetto life and its culture. A "Man-Child" originally referred to a boy or adolescent from the streets who was prematurely exposed to and knowledgeable about sex, violence and crime, incarceration, adult responsibility for younger siblings due to a dysfunctional home, and hustling to make a living.

You think life in the 'hood is rough now? Check out Brown's book one day. By the time he was 15 he'd already been locked up, hustling for a living and doing whatever he had to to survive as a man-child on the streets.

Unman

The act of losing one's manhood. Equivalents in various languages were common in antiquity when the castration of men or boys to produce eunuchs as servants in households of the rich was common. Another way dating from antiquity in which one could "unman" a man was by sodomizing him after his defeat or capture in battle, as happened to T.S. Lawrence - Lawrence of Arabia - during World War I.

In more recent times, "unmaning" a man survives in male prisons through the anal rape of weaker men by stronger ones.

T. S. Lawrence's memoirs relate how the Turkish governor of Arabia had his soldiers beat and Unman him after he was captured. He never recovered from having his Manhood taken from him.

212 was the original area code established for Manhattan in 1947. The 212s is a now dated term of condescension and gentile WASP anti-Jewish bigotry used to discreetly refer to and mock affluent New York City Jews such WASPs encountered in business, politics and some social situations.

I suppose the election of Micheal Bloomberg as mayor of New York City shows that the 212s still pretty much run things there, doesn't it, my dear.

Manhood

In male prisons in the U.S., the status and respect an inmate attains from never having been anally or orally penetration, or otherwise sexually used, by another man. One's Manhood can be lost in several ways in prison, such as displays of cowardice or falling victim to the scams of others, but is permanently unrecoverable only if one is sexually penetrated or otherwise sexually used by a man.

I heard that Juan lost his Manhood to some vatos on cellblock D last night. Word is that five of 'em jump and went up in 'em in the showers when he had soap in his face.
