Eva really wanted the diamond necklace but did not wish to risk the consequences of getting caught, so she used her friend Gabby as a baitpawn, taking the necklace from the display case and slipping it into Gabby's purse.

Noun - the tendency for people to feel compelled to adopt and use a new technology because it has become a de facto requirement due to its widespread adoption by others;

Verb- the act of compelling people to do so (active form), or of being thereby compelled to do so (passive form):

Adjective - as a descriptor of such a product or service (techmandatory)

Noun: Robin felt that her formerly mild interest in purchasing a computer had become a techmandate, because all of her friends had computers.

Verb (active form)- The industry techmandated the use of E-Mail, and almost no one wrote letters anymore..

Verb (passive form) - Everyone else on the bowling teams used the new, precisely balanced bowling balls, and Bruce found himself techmandated into buying one.

Adjective: The adoption of the new programming language became techmandatory.

Noun: an early form of study or belief system that laid the groundwork for a future scientific field. For example, alchemy could be considered the "proto-science" of chemistry.

Noun; an alternative story line in which the events of the original story are told from the perspective of an individual or group that was in the original story, but not as the primary individual or group.

If "The Wizard of Oz" was re- told from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the South rather than from Dorothy's perspective, it might make an interesting altquel.

Regressotech

Noun or adjective; refers to new technological devices or systems promoted as progressive when they actually don't work as well as the device or system that they replaced.

Owen remembered a time when most sinks in public bathrooms had handles with which one could turn on the water and adjust its temperature and flow. The new regressotech sinks have motion sensors instead of handles, the user has to wave his or her hands in various ways in order to activate them, and the flow of water is generally very brief.

Ben saw that the salesman's attention was diverted from him while showing Jerry the store's selection of ties, so he used Jerry as a pseudopawn, quickly snatching two gold cuff links from the open display case.
