ct scan of the head, facial bones, cervical spine, chest, abdomen and pelvis, originally used for patients with severe trauma but now used to prove those body parts exist.
Triage nurse: He broke his ankle/got punched in the nose/ was found on the floor next to his bed/ is demented. Pan scan.
ER resident: He looks ok, but he broke a bone. Pan scan.
Radiology attending: He's got an effing nasal bone fracture. What are they looking for? Why the pan scan.
Radiology resident: I don't know. I didn't ask.
