The 'rug' in the expression refers to any coveted possession, tangable or ideological, regardless of whether or not it 'ties the room together.' Therefore, to hypothetically urinate on such a possession would be to corrupt and/or disgrace it; ruin it.

2) The act of actually urinating upon an owner's rug.
