McCaughey Syndrome: (n) A
passive-aggressive pattern of behavior where one so affected completes tasks in a purposefully
incompetent way to avoid incurring further responsibilities.
Etymology: A US Marine named McCaughey, who served during the Vietnam War, became famous for his intentionally inept behavior. His Paris Island drill instructor first coined the term McCaughey Syndrome, which stuck and is still used by the
Marine Corps in the present day.
