A loner is someone who has no friends but doesnt even care. In fact he/she doesnt mind being alone, that person probably does feel lonely but is so unsocial that they probably cant remember how to make friends. So they would rather stay alone because... I dont know it seems better that way. I guess but I dont really understand why they would rather stay alone.

An individual who enjoys spending time alone just as much as spending time with people; however, he or she is quickly worn out by large crowds and must withdraw from people for a while in order to balance themselves out yet again. These individuals are naturally quiet, inconsistent, and very easily bored.
A "social loner" will sit in a room alone for hours on end, and will comfortably be more entertained than if they were at a social event, but only because intelligent people are a rarity these days, and all others a waste of time.

In the game of euchre, a player's hand of cards containing all four jacks that, susbequently, is used by the player in an attempt to "go alone". The attempt is generally done when the player's team only needs one point to win the game of euchre.
Your team was playing great until you got the dickey loner. Trying to go alone on that hand was not advisable.
