Kanite

A gem that contains a soul. It is linked to the realm membrane from wich it can absorb energy.
The stone is created when the soul is exposed to the specific signatures at the right time. When this happens the soul activates it's defense mechanisms bonding itself to the realm it's in. It crystallises into an unbreakable rock that has no mass but the energy coming from it's core modifies under the influence of the signature that resides in the soul and creates matter outside of the gem.

Kanite doesn't come from this realm. It is a disease we must purge.
