Elite Ball Knowledge
An affirmation for when a joking reference is made to something of only moderate popularity, and only when it is presented to a group that was not predictably of the same fan demographic as the reference itself. Does not apply if the thing being referenced has since fallen into obscurity due to overuse or otherwise becoming unpopular.
"The cake is a lie" stopped being Elite Ball Knowledge after 5 seconds
"Kilroy was here" was Elite Ball Knowledge only among civilians, but lost that status after WW2 shooters got popular and made reference to it
An in-joke exclusively restricted to your friend group will never be Elite Ball Knowledge
2000s-2010s Era Youtube comments directly quoting something funny from the very video they're commenting on will never be Elite Ball Knowledge
*Videogame cutscene from perspective of Person 1, who calls up Person 2 for help during a fight*
Person 1: "Oh, you're going into labor right now... can this wait?"
*Some guy in the comments quoting a completely unrelated video from 2 years ago with only a couple hundred thousand views*: "He's pulling the pregnancy card THIS early?!"
*A second commenter responds with a follow-up line from the same referenced video*
*A third commenter*: "Elite Ball Knowledge"
*A kid hears Edgar Allen Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart" for the first time, and then responds by quoting the Spongebob episode "Squeaky Boots"*: "THEY'RE HERE! UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS!"
*His friend*: "Elite Ball Knowledge"
