A made up reason explaining some phenomenon. Has no real meaning, but is used as a placeholder for BS-ing, especially in computer science.
Sam: Dr. Plank, what causes those strange aberrations in your graph?
Dr. Plank: Don't worry Sam, those are just cache effects.
