The Sponge Effect

The Sponge Effect describes the situation where a person does an action, that they have done enough times to make it semi-automatic. Semi-automatic meaning that they do not remember the action in details subsequently.
Police officer: You just ran this red light. Do you acknowledge this?
Bicyclist: Sorry, I cannot do that, I don't remember the action. It might have been the sponge effect.
