thongs are loose fitting open top slip on shoes. the are held on by a strip of rubber that is placed between the big toe and the next toe. In americia thongs are known as "flip flops" dam yank's. thongs are not to be confused with a thong which is a type of womens underwear.

Usually done either for sexual appeal or to cut down on panty lines - or both.
