Sapience

A step up from sentience. The possession of wisdom, or rather, the ability to think about thinking. Rats, dolphins, elephants, crows, and a few primates (including humans) have been scientifically proven to have sapience.
"Did you know that rats are sapient?" asks Johnny.
"Wait... Really? If they have sapience, isn't it basically murder if you kill one with a mousetrap then?!” replies Allan.

"Yes!" replies Johnny, smiling sociopathically.
