Contrary to above definition, definately not from any welsh phrase as the Welsh speak Welsh and unlike the North do not use the word 'nowt' . A Yorkshire phrase 'there's nowt so queer as folk'.

queer as folk

Comes from an old Welsh phrase: "There’s nowt so queer as folk" and basically taken to mean "There is nothing as strange as people" refined further to "it takes all sorts".

Queer As Folk

British TV series about a trio of gay men (and their acquaintances) living their lives on the Manchester gay scene. Was written by Russell T. Davies who went on to write for Doctor Who. Includes graphic sexual imagry and very taboo subjects. Ran to 2 popular series in Britain and was sold to the States.
