Marxism is not Communism, its what communism based its ideas on. Communism was starlins dream for russia, Karl Marx, lived in the early 1800's and did write the communist manifesto, for the communist party, that was 1848, based on his marxist ideas along time before starlin .
"How do you tell a Communist? it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do tell if somes a marxist ? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin."

The theory and practice of Karl Marx. Impossible to put down all his theories in one definition, but (this is an oversimplification) can be summed up as viewing history in economic terms and class struggle, and that the economic base determines the political and ideological superstructure (Historical Materialism). It is the development of the latter which produces social change: at a certain stage of their development the forces of production (the tools and instruments that are at the disposal of of humans at any given time) develop as far as they can under the existing economic and political organization of society, which then becomes a barrier to their further development, and a period of social revolution starts in which new economic and political relationships, corresponding to the expanded forces of production, are established.
Continued:

In accordance with this, it is possible to pick out the Asiatic, ancient, Feudal and modern capitalist modes of production as progressive epochs in the economic formation of society. The critical component in this consists in the view that in these successive modes of production the crucial element in society- the forces of production- have been controlled by a minority who have used their economic power in order to exploit the mass of the population by appropriating the economic surplus for their own benefit. All political institutions and cultural beliefs are shaped by the economic arrangements and those with economic power- the ruling class- so as effectively to bolster the unequal distribution of resources. This yields the Marxist concept of ideology as a set of beliefs and practices which serve to maintain an asymmetrical allocation of economic and political power.

Marx then proposed an alternative to a society based on exploitation and divided on class lines (see: communism)

The ideology originated by Karl Marx that claims an eventual victory for the working class in Europe by organically evolving through 6 stages of governance. The order is as follows:

1. Anarchy/primitive communism - No social hierarchies/private properties. Everyone works as hunters and gatherers.

2. Imperialism - An emperor has absolute authority and involves exploiting people for their labor involuntarily
3. Feudalism - All land of kingdom belongs to the king's family. Theocrats/knights well respected. Indentured servitude

4. Capitalism - Free market/private property. Those with the most money have power over those who don't
5. Socialism - Government takes over means of production to supposedly to ensure a more equitable society. Private property and reward for contribution still possible but at less extreme levels due to higher taxes on the wealthy
6. Communism - No idea of classes. Everyone distributed equal amounts of resources regardless of their contributions.

This ideology suggests that communism is the end game for humanity to get rid of all inequality plaguing society. Although it paints an idealistic view on communism, the system is fundamentally flawed because it's prone to corruption and lacks incentives for those who are willing to work and make advancements for society. However, many groups in today's society are advocating for this transition to take place.
There are a bunch of pro-Marxism people out on the streets protesting for socialist/communist ideologies to be in place as the solution for creating a more equal society.

Actual: An ideology made by German philosopher Karl Marx in the 19th century which would pave the way for communist and socialist movements in the 20th century, including the Russian revolution and the Chinese Civil War. Marxists believe capitalism is exploitive and a good alternative is communism where people contribute according to their ability, and receive according to their needs.

Slang: Anything a right-winger doesn't like.
Example 1: The Soviet Union ran on the ideology of Marxism when it existed.

Example 2: That radical Marxist Joe Biden wants to give women and gays equal rights! The horror!
