Changing our position is a political/corporate vernacular that essentially means lying or breaking a promise.
For example a CEO who promises his employees a pay rise or a politician who promises for the 50th time not to increase taxes, only to later break that promise, might claim they have "changed their position" in order to downplay the fact that they lied to the public
