Possibly originally a Bushism which has filtered into popular use.

Often used as an item that a minority, say the nerds in a classroom, will bring.
It is often the thing that your mind completely skips.

Teacher: Don't forget to bring your Norman tomorrow!

Teacher: Did you finally find your Norman?
Ambrose: Nah, couldn't find my Norman...

Leo (whispers): Dude, he brought his Norman AGAIN...
