That Greg guy's sales numbers are crazy high because he's really good at active listening (i.e., he's really good at making you feel like he's listening to you).

Someone that hears only what they want to hear.
Someone that while 'listening' to your argument, they have already thought of a reply regardless of what is currently being said.
Someone that doesnt pay full attention to the conversation.

You: "Can you tell me what format of longitude/ latitude this GPS device stores its locations?"
Negative Listener: "I'm sorry sir, but you cant search for locations based on longitude/ latitude."
You: "Huh? You appeared to have answered a question I never asked!"
Air hostess: "Would you like the chicken or beef sir?"
Negative Listener: "The fish sounds delicious!"

1.One that gets their ear talked off by a subject that they could care less about, therefore, they pretend to listen by using certain words that make it sound like they're listening but in fact they are not paying attention at all.
2.Someone who spends their life in their own little world and just grasps one or two words from a conversation to throw back so people actually think they were listening. They actually have no idea what anyone was talking about nor do they care.

Guy/Girl says: "I'm so glad that I got to talk to you right now because there are so many thing that you must hear about in my life right now."
Non-listener guy/girl says: " Mmm Hmm Mmm Hmm I Understand.
Girl/Guy says: " Do you really."

A person who may not understand what you're describing, but explaining a complex issue to them helps you better understand the problem, and therefore find a solution.
Although Jane does not know anything about machine learning she is happy to be John's designated listener when he describes the programming interface problems he is having with CHATGPT. In the process he was able to identify that he was using the wrong model/engine.

to play a song once, before immediately starting it again once you have finished, similar to the way that people chain smoke. can turn amazing songs into an irritating occurrence.
"i like the song Clouds over California. i'll play it again.!
oh my god, thats like the 20 time in a row you've restarted that song. i still like it, but if you continue chain listening to it any more, i'll kill you!"

when you tell someone something, they acknowledge they hear you, and don’t do it or do the opposite. it’s not that they don’t care or hate you, you just can’t get your point across to them so you have to dumb it down.
