A social ambush occurs when somebody you least want and/or least expect to see, ends up standing face to face with you in a social setting like a restaurant, bar, gallery, houseparty, etc.. You are more likely to feel surprised or anxious at first, then mad. Sometimes mutual associates can be aware the meeting will take place but for whatever reason, they do not bother to warn you. The best way to deal with the situation is to LEAVE. No need to say something you might regret later.
I went out with Jenny to that new restaurant last night and Tina just popped up. I felt like it was a social ambush. I walked out five minutes later.
