Awkward buffer

A person who goes along to a social situation to buffer the awkwardness. Used often when you're trying to get to know someone, but certainly not in the "date" sort of way. Works best if the awkward buffer is a friend of both parties.

Bob: I'm going to meet Maria tonight so we can hang out and get to know each other. Could you come with and be an awkward buffer?

Shelly: Sure! I'm good friends with her, I'll help keep the conversation going :)

Social Buffalo

1. A nice person who tries to be a 'Social Butterfly', i.e. someone with the ability to be sociable or friendly with everyone, flitting from person to person in the way a butterfly might, but in a misguided attempt to be cool ends up knocking over everybody's drinks and being sick on the carpet.

CPAP Buffet

When getting setup with a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, a provider may put out many different types of used CPAP Masks that have been used by hundreds of people to see which one fits best for the person. It's an effort designed to prevent opening up new masks constantly to cut on costs.

My dad went to the medical supply store to get setup with a CPAP Machine. When they put out the CPAP Buffet, he asked for a new mask.
