The term was originated in Tampa, Florida by a bunch of rich kids. It is related to the name of Mentholated cigarettes from Marlboro "Marlboro Smooth". The term can be used just for cigarettes in general not necessarily for "Marlboro Smooth" .The term is really useful among young teenagers because it give them an opportunity to talk about cigarettes or desire for one during class etc. or in front of the adults without the them knowing what it means.
