When one little detail in a book or movie gives away nearly the entire plot and you pretty much know what's going to happen.

A much-hyped weather-pattern that is intended to prompt panicked locals to stock up on costly emergency-supplies (canned/dried food, flashlights/batteries, auto/heating fuel, propane, generators, snowblowers, etc.), but then no "huge nor'easter" --- or even any particularly-noteworthy weather-disturbance of any kind --- ever actually materializes, causing the frazzled residents to feel foolish and disgusted for having spent all that hard-earned money for nothing.
I didn't bother laying in emergency supplies for the supposedly major hurricane and blizzard that was announced on MSN Weather, and sure enough, there was just a little rain and slightly-chilly breezes overnight, and now it's balmy and sunny outside. Sounds like just another media storm to me... just the news-services in cahoots with the survival-supplies manufacturers to trick people into needlessly buying more of their products.

Sharing opinionated knowledge on news, media, etc. to a large group and learning afterwards, it could be used against self or the opinion shared by self.
But blasting media yields butt blasting remarks: I didn’t like what someone said to me. I blasted it on social media and I received more comments I disapprove of.

When someone has been viewing social media topics, or any one topic, on social media for so long, non-stop, that they can't handle anymore new information. If more information continues to be presented to them then, they may get visibly upset since they've reached the overload point. They get upset even faster if they don't have a particular interest in the topic(s).
There have been so many tumblr posts on that new Cartoon that came out recently, Johnny hit Social Media Overload.
