The Singing Dog Effect is named for a musical artist in the furry fandom who uses the tagline in their songs. It describes the phenomenon that musicians in the furry fandom are just as capable of creating good music as those outside of the community, but when the song is explicitly about furry culture it is often regarded as not as good as their other work.

In Worlds 2021, in the 1st quarterfinal match, Tribe Gaming NA vs INTZ, Tribe's player Tyrant, playing the brawler Barley, went up and started spinning and went for a thumbs down emote, thinking they had won the game, and therefore the match, as they were on match point. However, INTZ attacked in the final siege and managed to win the game. They then won the next game and won the match.
