He then made a racing team called Dale Earnhardt Incorporation (DEI). Dale Earnhardt crashed trying to defend his 2 DEI drivers Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr in the Daytona 500 in 2001, but his crash was fatal, and he died by a basil skull fracture.
