West Des Moines

A fast-growing, quirky suburb of Des Moines, Iowa.

If Iowa's residents were asked what local city they most loathed, there is strong reason to believe that "West Des Moines" would be the most popular answer. Words often used to describe the city are "wealthy", "trendy", "arrogant", and "modern".

As of 2007, West Des Moines' city council is the highest paid in the nation for a city its size (it is followed closely by Albany, the capitol of New York), but when one examines the city's recent growth it becomes apparent why this is so. The city has demonstrated jaw-dropping growth over the past 5 years, constructing what is currently the largest shopping mall in Iowa, the national headquarters for Wells Fargo Bank, and a plethora of smaller businesses also located near the aforementioned mall within this time period.

Valley High School of West Des Moines has in recent years dominated high school sports and academic competitions, much to the ire of native residents throughout the rest of the state, whose local high school teams routinely face unrelenting punishment from "those damned Valley Kids". In 2006 Valley High School's football team was ranked as one of the top 3 in the nation (state champions in Iowa), and in the same year Valley High School's mock trial team won their national championship. The debate team is also nationally renowned as well as the marching band and orchestra (which earned recognition from the Grammy Association in 2002).

West Des Moines' strong growth and education system can largely be attributed to the area's large but unevenly distributed wealth. The richest residents tend to live on the west side of the town while the poorer, more established residents often reside in the eastern Valley Junction area. Surprisingly there is remarkably little class conflict or animosity, however many residents are uncomfortable with being labeled as rich or arrogant by outsiders, and often go out of their way to prove themselves contrary to this common stereotype within Iowa.
Check out that arrogant prick, I bet he's from West Des Moines.

Background info on the areas;
Westside- mostly rich people, bitchiness awaits as you journey to the "westside" of dmi. The really nice mall, Jordan Creek is located there and around that area good luck crossing the street, cars don't stop for anyone. Also most of the country clubs are located there and many resturaunts, typically chain resturaunts. Red Robin, Mimi's Cafe, PF Changs, Bravo, Joes Crab Shack, etc.

Southside-History here goes way back! Mostly made up of Italian descent, you will find the best Italian food in DMI here, FYI. It's typically safe and quiet.

Eastside-The great Iowa State Fair is located here and it's basically the highlight of Eastersiders year, you can park in their yards and they keep the cash..typically $10 per car. Generally safe, but it sometimes gets a very bad stench because of the meat packing plants nearby.

Northside-Not too familar with the northside of DMI, except that they have an awesome haunted house in an old grocery store and Smokey D's is the BEST BBQ in town!

BTW WE AREN'T ALL FARMERS HERE!
Frankie: Man this fair has the best food!
Dino: Yeah, dude I know, thats Des Moines for ya!

Monet

Someone charming, adorable, and beautiful like the painting. Creative and daring, a Monet can adapt to any social group, and is usually the cool one in the room. They attract anybody who happens to be around them, and always down to have a good time.

monetary policy

The means by which entities, as government agencies, as the Federal Reserve, Department of the Treasury, and institutions as the central bank, control the supply of money (M1, M3). This process includes trading in foreign exchange markets.

Monetary policy can but viewed in its two forms: expansionary and contractionary. Expansionary policy increases the total money supply (liquidity) and is used to fight unemployment or recessionary pressures, mainly by lowering interest rates. Direct cash infusions to struggling private institutions or government rebates to individuals can be used as emergency measures to avoid panic runs on banks as was seen in the 1929 market crash. These measures are very dangerous and are considered highly inflationary and destabilizing to currency exchange rates. Economic theory would indicate that such uncontrolled printing of money, indicates failure of fiscal policy (which refers to government borrowing, spending, and taxation).

Contractionary policy is used to control inflation by raising interest rates. A "perfect storm" scenario would be when a government "should be" using a contractionary policy and resorts to an expansionary policy.
The world is very critical of the monetary policy of the United States and is punishing it by devaluing its currency.
