A Lime Alert is a code word between friends or a couples denoting the moment when recognizing a person or persons known to them that they wish not to encounter. Named after the chracter Harry Lime as played by Orson Welles in film The Third Man and his famous entrance scene. The most common occurence of the Lime Alert's usage is before entering a party or event at which time the Lime Alert would signal the instant departure from the party.
