Could the brain be a vessel for a complex mathematical entity that is so complicated, it can affect the very same mathematical function that describes its existence? Thus making this function seemingly go on forever until the vessel is no no longer able to make the function go on any longer, because no mathematical paths lead from neuron A to neuron b.
This specific function would be determined mostly by neurotransmitter levels and changes to the underlying pattern of neuron-distribution, which itself would be caused by mathematical input from the senses derived from particle Interactions within different cells(nurture) and genetics (nature). Genetics regulate the internal configuration of the hardware, and regulates the different variables that influence brain function to a degree.
A function with near infinite variables (i:E all the different particle interactions that enable the brain to fire neurons), producing neatly sorted pockets with self-describing properties. The function would be able to encrypt past states of itself, as the function moves along its time axis. This brain encryption would would change the result of the function as it moves along its timeline.
This pattern has been in calculation ever since patterns of mathematical information gained the ability to replicate themselves(ie when genetic information gained the ability to replica itself) with the conception of life.

I'm mind masturbating to string theory right now.
John's Girlfriend: "Hey, want to come over?"
John: "Hold on a second, I'm finishing up mind-masturbating to Stephen Hawking talking about quantum physics and the theory of multiverses. Oh yeah, oh yeah..."
John's Girlfriend: "Oh."
