Somewhat grounded: this is the stage of being ‘grounded’ when you are almost at the end of your sentence. You are allowed to do stuff under SUPER close watch, and only if it’s not for socializing. Also when asked when you will be ungrounded the answer is always “I don’t know”
“Hey mom can I stay after school to ask my teacher for help?”
“Yes, but I will be asking if you were there for the whole time, Bc you are still ‘somewhat grounded’;)”

When an individual (quite often a man's significant other) asks for something, but when ridiculed about the preposterous nature of the request, they begin to claim they were joking about it. Whereas if you had said you were willing to fulfil the request, they would have happily one through with it.
"Jamie can I have that £3000 ring from that jewellery shop?"
"Sophie are you out of your mind? No I can't afford it!"
"I was only joking!"
"No you were ground-baiting."
