Ordet er sammensatt av ordene sus og kuk. Å suse rundt og å kuke rundt er synonymer på det å vandre rundt uten mening. Når satt sammen forsterker ordene hverandre, og innebærer å være en jævla idiot som ikke vet det selv. En suskuk tar også vanligvis mye plass, igjen uten å være klar over det selv, men ordet er ikke ensbytende med denne egenskapen. Begrepet stammer fra Vest-Agder, og brukes gjerne om suskuker fra nærliggende distrikter.
