Public Bicycle

Bicycle(s) used freely by the urban community for transportation purposes. A bicycle not owned by any particular person, but shared by community members. Formerly a suburban bicycle.

Tyron pedaled the public bike to the fresh mart to purchase a pack of newports. Jackson decided to take the public bike to the payphone. Jackson left the bike at the barber shop for the next lucky rider.

Public School

In an ideal world, a public school is a place that kids, living in the community, can learn reading, writing, math, science, civics education, music, debate, art, etc for free. The community funds the school via taxes. Without the support of the community, the public school will flounder. With the support of the community, the school will also be able to supply tutors, social workers, counselors, etc.

The public neighborhood school allows the kids to attend without having to travel great distances. If the school isn't walking distance, bus transportation is usually provided.

Many believe that the movement away from neighborhood schools is a bad idea. Many believe the best option is to create more choices within each neighborhood school. Supply ample funding so the school can offer drama, debate, art, vocational classes, etc.

Florida Governor DeSantis said that any school receiving public funds is a public school. There has been a movement in the US to use public dollars to fund charter schools (which in some cases allow profits to go to real estate developers who own the building and land that house the charter school), and private schools.

I am grateful for the public schools I attended.
Public schools offer opportunities for children of all economic status.

a misunderstood type of school system. Incorrectly assumed to be the worst, however they are just as good as private schools. Some leaders of industry hail from a public school. Majority of public school students are actually good citizens, but are overlooked.

Public school Student: I come from a public school.
Private School student: I pity you.
Public school Student: Nah, you shouldn't. My school is actually good. It has enabled us to grow a sense of camaraderie.

public option

...I don't know! I put this up here in hopes of someone filling me in. When Obama says "public option," does he mean private health insurance, like the kind I have now? Or is it another arm of the proposed nationalized health insurance?

'Fewer than 5% on public option?' That sounds ridiculous. Many people will keep their insurance they have now. If the public option is what I wrote above, then that number can't be right!"
